Introduction
Onto the test server I go to test out the new probing system. I wanted to share with you what I learnt. Firstly no more spam the scan button chance based system having a good method to your scanning will result in you finding things faster. The first bit of bad news this will mean ships take 2 minutes sometimes to scan sometimes more so this is a PvP scanning nerf. The only other bit of bad news is you now have to use your brain a bit.
Currently there are lot of issues on the test server. The first is that some plexs are impossible to find, this will be tweaked. Secondly you need astrometrics V to be able to use probes... ooops. Thirdly is once you find your wormholes you can't go into them yet. It is however worth giving scanning a try just to get used to the new system.
Probing for Wormholes Guide
0) Step 0 was an afterthought of how to set up so you can scan for only deadspace signatures. Firstly click the triangle as shown below and create an new filter.
Go to the the cosmic signatures section tick the box and bam you are only probing for them. The same could be applied to only probe for titans in PvP.
1) First jump into the system you want to scan and load the longrange probes. (Deep Space Scanner Probe I)
2) Hit the solar system map, and set up the solar system map as shown so that you aren't getting 100 differnt poppups on screen. If you are on the star map hit the toggle button on the map control panel.
Also note the picture below shows that you can simply right click a probe to edit its range.
3) I then decided it was best to set your first probe at the middle of the system so the probe doesnt seem to eat your whole screen. I set it to 64au which meant the bubble covered my whole solarsystem map.
4) Select your current probe by clicking it and hit the blue circle with the target in the middle to get yourself a result if there are any in system. Then select your result you will see a sphere like in the picture below this is the area where the result could be.
5) So how do we narrow this down? Well this is where triangulation comes in! Put a second probe up and use the arrows to drag them so they both cover roughly 3/4 of they system and overlap each other.
Then scan when you get your results back you will see that in this area where your probes were overlayed you get a red circle. These are all the possible locations of the plex anywhere on this circle. Select the result to see this if the result isn't in the overlay area then you will still only be able to view the bubble you got previously.
6) So now we have narrowed it down some more. Lets add another point of referance and see what we get. Same proceduce make sure the circle is the the probes overlay move them around and your ready to scan.
This third point of referance gives you two possible locations, however its advisable to find it down to one then you get to lay less probes in the later stages.

7) Ok lay a 4th probe and now we have it one unique point. This is a red circle on the map, you cannot warp to this yet as you need a scan strength of 100%.
If you dont get one point move your probes around a bit to ensure they are overlaying both the potential points.
8) Now return your probes as they are reusable wooot!
9) Change probe type to the small ones. (Core scanner probe I)
10) Set these probes to their shortest range 0.25au and lay 4 of them so they overlap each other on this one red dot in space. Dont have them directly on top of each other just make sure they overlay and are at slighly different distances from the red dot.
11) Hit scan and get your result if the strength is 100% you can right click the result and warp to it. Otherwise move your probes slighly then you will be able to warp to it on the next scan.
12) So what does a wormhole look like? Well it has no graphic currently just a placeholder.
Also expect the old Radar, Ladar, Mag and Gravi sites to pop up too with new names. You can't distinguish between the different types but now it only takes 5minutes to find them who cares if its not what you want find a new one!
Conclusions
This is so so easy for exploration when you have plenty of time! Probing titans out as they cloak will be near on impossible however and catching ***s bouncing around your system good luck.

I really like this system it look complicated but it takes what used to be a hour+ job down to a 5 minutes job. This is pure epic win!
I am glad I have cov ops alts though to try and run around like mad finding the best sites these things are going to be instarun straight after DT now.
This system is a bit too fast is the only possible thing I would say, thats in terms of exploration though. Combat wise it kind of sucks at the moment but as long as the system scanning array stays the same you will be able to defend your own space! Just makes probing out plexing guys and mission runners harder. When scanning for ships I don't want the possible signals to display just 'Ship' at the least I want to see 'Battleship' if not 'Raven'. |

It will display that as you get closer, you need a strength of above 50% I think to display Battle Ship and 90% to get Raven.
No freaking good still compared to current system for PvP. Instead of 30s scans it takes what 5 minutes? Jumping safes now means you are 100% immune, maybe this is in preparation for the 'cloak nerf' and the 'omgnolocalchat' ideas that may be implemented.
/me goes back to rubbing his crystal test server ball. |

Originally by: Xavier Zedicus Excellent. but now what advantages does my Sisters launcher give me under the new system?
0.2 seconds faster scanning perhaps. The faction stuff needs to be balanaced! Better triangulation would be my suggestion so smaller deviations and can get to final result faster. The triangulation in its current state is basic it needs deviations to make probing more challenging I think. |

I think the scanning/plex/probing interface was fine, i liked warping round the planets, deciding which planets to launch probes at, using google to convert AU - km and vice versa, and i admit openly that it needed improving, and changes to make it more usable.
My oppinion, this implement made things worse.
It took me 20minutes to figure it all out, 10 minutes later I have my first wormhole. 30minutes later I had made a guide on the thing and found 4 complexs in the one hour. This isn't a 'push button recieve bacon' interface but I like it. |

am pretty sure that just got smakced in the face.. is one of the main things am saying..
Agreed, didn't you read my emo tears about it earlier? I am now however over that and more interested in how these wormholes are going to pay for my dreams. :)

Originally by: ollobrains2 well ive got a 100% accuracy but its still not showing as a red or green dot or anything
When you get 100% accuracy right click the result in the scanner interface and warp to.
I found another wormhold in hmmm 5minutes just now, only problem is I still get the message: 'This wormhole has collapsed'.
This sucks just a little bit :(, there is still a few things to be released onto SiSi it looks like I will keep an eye on it over the next few days and as interesting things hit will write guides if I get the time.

Originally by: Vladimir Norkoff The dev blog stated that there were two types of probe launchers - Exploration & Combat. Is there a difference between the two types? And which one did you use for this guide?
The Deep Space Probes can only be used in the exploration launcher, which requires much more CPU. The Core Scanner Probes (short range probes) can be used in both the combat and exploration style launchers and require much less CPU.
This guide therefore had to use the Exploration launcher, also of note is the fact I am finding these things so fast on a character with terrible scanning skills. I had to use this character as he is my only one with Astrometrics V which is required currently due to a bug.
Thanks for all the feedback guys hope this has been useful. Try not to stick to the guide to religiously we are meant to be testing afterall.
